Racioppa Earns Bid to College Grove Regional

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced the teams and individuals selected for the 2017 NCAA Division I Regionals on Thursday, and Daniel Racioppa from Alcorn State University was selected to the College Grove Regional on May 15-17 on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.
 
Racioppa becomes the first-ever golfer from Alcorn to play in NCAA Regionals which will be a three round, 54-hole tournament. The announcement was made live on the Golf Channel.
 
"This was a historic day for the Alcorn golf program and for our great University. We are very excited to advance into the NCAA Tournament," said Alcorn head coach Danny Forshey, who won SWAC Co-Coach of the Year. "Our entire season has focused on preparation, and this is still our focus for regionals. Golf is a game of confidence and preparation equals confidence. We are focused on the process of improving every day and Daniel understands the sacrifices it takes to play at an elite level."
 
Racioppa earned his spot after becoming the first-ever golfer from Alcorn to win the SWAC Championships. He entered the final round three strokes out of first-place when he eventually caught and surpassed Kirabo Reed from Alabama State. Racioppa ended with a 217 (+1) for the tournament.
 
Racioppa is one of 10 individuals competing at College Grove along with 13 schools. The low five schools and the low individual not on those teams from the regional will advance to the finals.
 
The NCAA Finals is scheduled for May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
