SWAC Championship Central

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The youthful Alcorn State University track & field programs both ended in eighth-place after three days of the 2017 SWAC Outdoor Championships at Louis Crews Stadium on the campus of Alabama A&M University.

"We did an excellent job this weekend," said Alcorn head coach Brian Johnson, who completed his second season at the helm. "Being such a young team and competing as well as we did makes me so excited for the upcoming years."

The Lady Braves had two finalists in the 800m where sophomore Angelica Jacobs submitted a fourth-place score of 2:18.34, and freshman Shaquanda Hill ran a 2:27.91. It was a busy day for Jacobs as she also placed seventh in the 1500m with a time of 5:03.45.

The women's 4x100m relay team registered a fourth-place showing at a time of 46.41. The Lady Braves were represented by sophomore Jada Hunt and freshmen Jessica Ransom, Shameka Grover and Nathalya McMillion. It was a new season-best after they ran a 47.16 at LSU on April 22.

The men's 4x100m also posted a top-five finish at a score of 41.66. The all-freshmen team of Harold Horton, Jaylen Muhammed, Justin Hines and Darius Major ran for the Braves.

In the finals of the women's 100m hurdles, freshman Justice Edwards ended in seventh after clocking in at 15.08. Edwards, who earned a bronze medal in the heptathlon yesterday, ran an identical 15.08 in the preliminaries.
