Alcorn Holds Cheerleading Tryouts April 5-7

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University cheerleading squad will look to revamp its roster when it hosts tryouts April 5-7 in the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
 
The schedule begins April 5 from 5-8 p.m. with cheers/chants and stunt sequence. It will follow-up the next day from 4-8:30 p.m. with the fight song, dance and review. The final day on April 7 runs from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. with a review and tryout.
 
"We are looking for a well-rounded individuals. First and foremost, an outgoing personality as well as good character are very important. The Alcorn cheerleaders are highly visible within our community and therefore must be able to represent the University in a positive way," said cheerleading coach Kelunda Robinson. "Grades and how well you work with our coaches will also be considered at tryouts. Good collegiate style motions, tumbling and co-ed stunts are also equally as important. Commitment to a full year of participation is mandatory."
 
There is no height or weight restriction. Both males and females are encouraged to tryout.
 
Alcorn cheerleaders begin formal practices in mid-August. They cheer at football, volleyball and basketball games, in addition to athletic department events and campus and community activities throughout the year.
 
The primary role of the Alcorn cheerleading program is to promote crowd involvement at athletic events and appearances. Showmanship, motion technique and crowd leading ability are important factors in the tryout/selection process.

Requirements for Tryouts
- 2.50 GPA (Students currently enrolled at Alcorn State University/Transfer)
- Unofficial transcripts (Current Students & Transfers)
- An acceptance letter upon date of tryouts (Transfers & incoming freshmen)
- Physician clearance form
- If nails are worn, make sure they are athletic length (not extending over the tip of the finger)
- No body jewelry
- Hair must be in a high ponytail or shoulder-length
- Natural make-up
- Black sports bra
- Black cheer shorts  
- Cheerleading or lightweight shoes
- Neat facial hair or none at all (Males)
- Black tank (Males)
- Black basketball shorts (Males)
- $60 non-refundable tryout fee
- As a safety procedure, please have your most recent medical insurance card as well as valid identification
