CLINTON, Miss. – In their final tune-up races before the SWAC Championships, the Alcorn State University men's and women's cross country programs will compete at the Mississippi College Invitational on Saturday morning at Choctaw Trails.
Â
The men will run an 8K at 8 a.m. followed by the women's 5K at 9 a.m.
Â
It will be the exact distances that Alcorn runs at the 2018 SWAC Championships, which will also be at Choctaw Trails on Monday, Oct. 22 at 8 a.m.
Â
Senior
Angelica Jacobs has been Alcorn's top finisher in every meet in her career. She'll be looking to crack a 5K personal-record time of 19:31.90 set at the 2016 SWAC Championships.
Â
Both the Alcorn men and women have shown steady improvement week-to-week during the 2018 season. Most notably, sophomore
Alanna Bass recorded a 5K time of 36:11.00 in the season-opener on Aug. 31, and then tallied a 27:30.0 in that same distance in Alcorn's last outing at McNeese State on Sept. 29.
Â
The men will run an 8K after competing in back-to-back four-mile races at Louisiana Tech and McNeese State. Sophomore
Peterson Saint-Cyrin shed a lot of time off his score as he posted a 28:05.4 at LA Tech and followed it up with a 27:26.1.
Â
Freshman
Lamaj Curry has been the top runner for the Braves this season. He ran a 23:51.7 at LA Tech and will be competing in his first 8K race as a Brave.
