CLINTON, Miss. – Four Alcorn State University cross country student-athletes recorded personal-bests Saturday morning when the program closed out the regular season at Choctaw Trails, hosted by Mississippi College.

Senior
Angelica Jacobs notched a top-20 showing out of 143 competitors with a 5K time of 19:58.75. It neared her personal-record of 19:31.90 set at the 2016 SWAC Championships.

Three of Alcorn's next four finishers on the women's side all tallied personal-records. Junior
Shaquanda Hill submitted a 21:44.72 which topped her previous best of 22:28.51 set at this same meet last season.

Freshmen
Makayla Gates and
Kristen Raven also turned in career-highs. Gates ran a 22:20.55 which beat out her 23:09.68 set earlier this season. Raven clocked in at 24:22.62 which upped the bar from her 25:18.50 at McNeese State on Sept. 29.

The men were led by freshman
Lamaj Curry who legged out an 8K time of 28:43.87 which was good for 83rd. Junior
Tyreq Miles notched a personal-record of 29:49.87 which was an improvement from his 29:53.49 at the 2017 SWAC Championships.

As a team, the Lady Braves placed 12th out of 20 Saturday, while the Braves were 16th out of 22.

Alcorn will now turn its attention to the 2018 SWAC Championships held at Choctaw Trails at 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22. The women finished in sixth last year, while the men were in seventh. Jacobs, who has been Alcorn's top scorer in every meet in her career, is a two-time All-Conference Second-Team honoree.
