PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Going on the road for its third straight Homecoming, the Alcorn State University football program travels to Prairie View A&M for a 2 p.m. game Saturday at Panther Stadium.

Alcorn (6-2, 4-1 SWAC) has won three straight road games, including Homecomings at Southern and Alabama A&M. The Braves are also playing their third conference game against an opponent coming off a bye week, as PVAMU (3-4, 2-1 SWAC) did not play last week.

The Braves registered a 33-26 victory over Grambling State in their last outing. They scored the game-winning touchdown with 12 seconds left as junior Noah Johnson connected with junior Chris Blair on a one-yard pass. Alcorn sacked GSU eight times in the contest.

Junior Terry Whittington made national headlines Monday after being named the FCS Defensive Player of the Week. He was also the HBCU National Player of the Week and SWAC Defensive Player of the Week honoree.

Whittington notched career-highs of 15 tackles, 6.0 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble against GSU. He came close to the single-game school record of 5.0 sacks set by Bryant Mix in 1995 against Texas Southern.

Whittington is part of a defense that leads the nation in both sacks per game (4.5) and tackles for a loss per game (9.5). The Braves are also sixth in the country in total defense (266.6 ypg), seventh in third down conversion defense (.286) and top-10 in red zone defense (.700).

Offensively, Johnson is Alcorn's leader in both passing and rushing. He's thrown for 1188 yards and eight touchdowns, and has rushed for 583 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Braves have flip-flopped between two running backs this year as senior P.J. Simmons has registered 571 yards and three touchdowns, while junior De'Shawn Waller has 481 yards and six touchdowns.

Blair has been the team's top target in the air with 322 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Prior to PVAMU's bye week, it was stunned by Southern 38-0. It came after the Panthers opened league play with wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff 62-13 and GSU 22-16.

The Panthers feature both the league's top rusher and passer. Dawonya Tucker ranks first in the SWAC with 116.0 rushing yards per game. He's carried the ball 105 times for 812 yards. Quarterback Jalen Morton has thrown for a league-leading 1,678 passing yards/239.7 per game and 13 touchdowns.

The game can be heard live for free on 91.7 FM or wprl.org with Charles Edmond as the voice of the Braves.
