Alumni Basketball Weekend Set for Feb. 8-9

LORMAN, Miss. – The weekend of Feb. 8-9, 2019 will not only feature a basketball doubleheader between Alcorn State University and Jackson State, but also an alumni basketball game at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

"We are taking a collective step to reach out to our former student-athletes and welcome them back for this upcoming basketball reunion weekend," said director of athletics Derek Horne. "I am excited about this event. We want as many former men's and women's basketball former student-athletes to come together and have a good time. This event will grow more and more each year as we this will be an annual event."

The weekend will include a reception for the alumni. Former student-athletes and coaches can click here to register by filling out a questionnaire.

"The Alcorn State University basketball program has such a rich history and winning tradition built by legendary coaches and united by phenomenal players. I look forward to this historic reunion and the opportunity to fellowship with past and present coaches, players, and their families. I encourage all former players to come out and participate in this event," said former men's basketball student-athlete and current assistant vice president for athletic compliance and academic services Jason Cable.

Exact times of events are still being finalized. Alcorn's doubleheader against JSU will begin at 3 p.m. with the Lady Braves tipping it off.

"I'm really excited for the alumni to come back to campus. We really want this event to grow like a Homecoming game for basketball. We want to invite and welcome all eras of former student-athletes, coaches and cheerleaders. Let's pack the house and make this a grand event," said Alcorn men's head coach Montez Robinson.

"I'm looking forward to that weekend, not because it's our rivalry game, but to have the pioneers of the Lady Braves program back where it all began. Seeing these women gives our young ladies something to work for," said Alcorn women's head coach Courtney G. Pruitt.
