Six Braves Earn HBCU All-America Honors, Three Offensive Linemen

LORMAN, Miss. – The 2018 SWAC champion Alcorn State University football program was well-represented on the HBCU All-America Team with six selections, announced by BOXTOROW.
 
The honorees from Alcorn's offensive line were senior Chris McCrea and juniors Kevin Hall and Mustaffa Ibrahim. Also on the offense was junior De'Shawn Waller, the SWAC Newcomer of the Year.
 
On defense, junior Terry Whittington and sophomore Qwynnterrio Cole solidified spots on the All-America Team. Both were named to the All-Conference First-Team.
 
In addition to the six selections, junior quarterback Noah Johnson and junior linebacker Solomon Muhammad were tabbed as Honorable Mentions.
 
The Alcorn offensive line has helped the Braves lead the SWAC in total offense (475.2 ypg), scoring (33.5 ppg), rushing (282.3 ypg), first downs per game (23.4) and time of possession (33:06). McCrea, Hall and Ibrahim were all named to the All-Conference First-Team.
 
Waller has rushed for 1,048 yards and 12 touchdowns in nine games this year. He ranks 10th in the nation in rushing yards per game (116.4), 18th in rushing TD's (12), 22nd in all-purpose yards (126.9 ypg) and 23rd in total rushing yards (1,048).
 
Whittington ranks 16th in the country in sacks per game (.82) and is also Alcorn's leader with 14.0 tackles for a loss. He's been named FCS Defensive Player of the Week, HBCU National Player of the Week and SWAC Defensive Player of the Week this season. He's helped the Braves lead the nation in both sacks and tackles for a loss.
 
Cole, who has only started in six games this season, leads Alcorn in tackles this year with 68. He has three interceptions including back-to-back games against Southern in the regular season and Alabama State.
 
Alcorn's six HBCU All-Americans were the most in school history since the award started in 2014. The Braves tied for the most selections of any school this year with their Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl opponent North Carolina A&T.
