Alcorn Game Notes | Tournament Central
RUSTON, La. – Playing in its first tournament of the year, the Alcorn State University softball program will play five games over the weekend in the LA Tech Invitational at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

Alcorn (1-5) will kick if off Friday at 1 p.m. against UMass-Lowell and will take on Saint Louis later that evening at 7 p.m.

Saturday's schedule will consist of a 1 p.m. game against South Dakota and a 7 p.m. match versus Missouri State. The Lady Braves will close out the weekend with a 1 p.m. affair against LA Tech on Sunday.

It will be Alcorn's first-ever meeting against UMass-Lowell and Missouri State. The Lady Braves are 0-1 all-time against Saint Louis, 0-2 against South Dakota and 1-17 against LA Tech.

Senior first baseman
Taylor Hughes enters the weekend ranked third all-time in Alcorn history in both hits (148) and doubles (28), fourth in RBI (85), sixth in walks (50), eighth in both runs scored (76) and 11th in triples (6). She needs three more hits and five more doubles to become the school's all-time leader in those categories.

Hughes, the 2018 SWAC Preseason Player of the Year, is hitting for a .375 average and .444 on-base percentage this year. Senior
Mariah Ortiz is batting for a team-high .400 average and also carries a .429 on-base percentage into the weekend.

Robin Harrison has paced the pitching staff with a 2.69 ERA with nine strikeouts in 13.0 innings. She's allowed just one walk.

UMass-Lowell (0-5) opened its season last weekend at the Pediatric Cancer Invitational in Clearwater, Florida. It fell to No. 10 Tennessee 4-1, Missouri 9-4, Florida Atlantic 4-0, Marshall 4-2 and Oakland 5-3.

Saint Louis (1-4) played five games last weekend at the Petersen Hotels Invitational in Peoria, Illinois. The Billikens beat split a pair with Miami (Ohio) 6-0 and 2-3, but fell to Bradley 8-0 (6), Washington 15-3 (5) and Western Illinois (3-2).

South Dakota (1-10) is coming off the Marucci Desert Classic in Las Vegas last weekend where it beat New Mexico 5-2, but fell to San Jose State 6-5, Cal State Northridge 11-1 (6), UNLV 6-2 and UTEP 7-5.

Missouri State (4-5) competed in the UTSA Classic last weekend. It topped Prairie View A&M 4-3 and Lamar 1-0, but fell to Kansas 6-0 and 7-6, and UTSA 4-3 (9).

LA Tech (5-7) is coming off the LSU Tournament in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Lady Techsters topped Southern Utah twice 5-1 and 4-1. They also beat Central Arkansas 8-7. LA Tech fell to LSU 2-1 (9) and Oregon State 2-0.
