CONWAY, Ark. – In its final tune-up before conference play, the Alcorn State University softball program will travel to Central Arkansas for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Farris Field.

It's the first game in nine days for Alcorn (1-14). The program is 1-4 all-time against UCA (10-9, 3-0 SLC) with the win coming in 2010 by the score of 3-0.

The Lady Braves last competed in the Mississippi State Tournament on March 2-4. After the tournament, junior
Paige Taylor was awarded SWAC Pitcher of the Week. The right-hander pitched a gem against Sam Houston State with a complete-game of 7.0 innings. She allowed just one run to keep Alcorn within striking distance the entire game despite a 1-0 loss.

On the weekend, the Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada native registered a 2.42 ERA and limited the opposition to a .257 batting average.

Freshman
Amari Ramsey had a hot weekend at the plate at Mississippi State. She hit for a .417 average and .563 slugging. Ramsey registered five hits in 12 at-bats and four walks.

Senior first baseman
Taylor Hughes leads the Lady Braves with a .405 batting average. She's the all-time hits leader at Alcorn with 159 in four years. She also ranks third in the school record book in both doubles (28) and RBI (89), sixth in walks (53), seventh in runs scored (78) and 11th in triples (6). Hughes won SWAC Hitter of the Week this year on Feb. 26 after earning LA Tech All-Tournament Team accolades.

The Lady Braves have mixed and matched their lineups all season and have used 15 different batting orders in 15 games this year.

The Sugar Bears are coming off a huge weekend where they swept No. 25 McNeese State in a three-game series to open their conference schedule. Two of the three games were decided by one run. UCA also has wins this year over North Texas and Villanova.

UCA has a team ERA of 3.50, led by Rio Sanchez who has a 5-2 record and 1.49 ERA in 37.2 innings. Kate Myers leads the squad at the plate with a .367 average and .500 slugging percentage.

Alcorn will kick-off its SWAC schedule this weekend when it hosts Texas Southern in a three game series. The first game is slated for 3 p.m. Friday.
