Game Notes | Live Stats

HAMMOND, La. – A rested Alcorn State University softball program will take the field again Tuesday when it travels to Southeastern Louisiana for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. at North Oak Park.

The Lady Braves (1-16, 0-0 SWAC) had the weekend off from competition and will play their first games in seven days. They were originally scheduled to play Texas Southern over the weekend but the games were postponed to May 3-4.

Freshmen Amari Ramsey and Desirea Lindsey enter Tuesday on five-game hitting streaks. Ramsey is also on a seven-game on-base streak. She had a hot weekend at the plate at the MSU Tournament where she went 5-for-12 with four walks over five games.

Senior first baseman Taylor Hughes leads the Lady Braves with a .388 batting average and .436 on-base percentage. She's the all-time hits leader at Alcorn with 161 in four years. She also ranks third in the school record book in both doubles (28) and RBI (91), sixth in walks (53), seventh in runs scored (78) and 11th in triples (6).

After Alcorn's last tournament at Mississippi State, junior Paige Taylor was awarded SWAC Pitcher of the Week. The right-hander pitched a gem against Sam Houston State with a complete-game of 7.0 innings. She allowed just one run to keep Alcorn within striking distance the entire game despite a 1-0 loss. On the weekend, Taylor registered a 2.42 ERA and limited the opposition to a .257 batting average.

The Lady Braves have mixed and matched their lineups all season and have used 16 different batting orders in 17 games this year.

SLU (15-11, 4-2 SLC) is coming off a three-game sweep over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the weekend. The Lady Lions scored 42 runs in the three games. SLU also has wins this season over Louisiana Tech 7-1 and Southern Miss 9-3.

The Lady Lions have two pitchers, Rachel Hayes and Tanner Wright, who have thrown at least 40 innings and have under a 3.0 ERA. The duo have combined for 27 appearances. At the plate, Alli Daigle leads the squad with a .382 average, .452 on-base percentage and .509 slugging.

Alcorn has met SLU 21 times before in the all-time series history with the lone win coming in 2014 by the score of 3-1.

Alcorn begins SWAC action on the road at Southern this weekend on March 23-24. Though first, the Lady Braves will host Rust College in a doubleheader Thursday starting at 1 p.m.
