LORMAN, Miss. – Over two games, the Alcorn State University softball program did not allow a hit including a perfect game thrown by freshman
Lindsey Eldridge as the Lady Braves defeated Rust College 13-0 twice Thursday at the Alcorn Softball Complex.

Eldridge's perfect game for Alcorn (3-18) came in the second of the doubleheader. In five innings, she struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced.

Junior
Paige Taylor nearly fired a perfect game in the first contest but surrendered one walk. She also struck out 12 batters in five frames.

"Lindsey and Paige did extremely well. A no-hitter and a perfect game isn't too bad regardless of who you're playing," said Alcorn head coach
Josef Rankin. "They competed and I was very pleased with that. We challenged both of them before the game to really lock in mentally and compete."

At the plate, freshman
Amari Ramsey extended her hitting-streak to nine games. She was three-for-three with three RBI and three runs scored in game one including an inside-the-park home run. Ramsey finished one-for-two with a run and an RBI in game two.

The Lady Braves racked up 22 hits total over the two games. Multi-hit games came from senior
Mariah Ortiz, junior
Victoria Tyler, sophomore
Ambria Dorsey, sophomore
Alicia Hill, freshman
Ashley Arnold and freshman
Teona Bowles.

Extra-base hits included a triple with the bases loaded in game one by Tyler, and doubles by Ortiz and junior
Kaylene Smith.

Alcorn stayed patient at the plate and drew 24 walks over the two games.

"Our team did well today. It was good to get some work in. We did a good job of playing to a standard and not the scoreboard. That's just a principle we're trying to get to as a program," Rankin said.

For the Bearcats (0-7), Kaylin Morris was the lone base runner after drawing a walk in game one. Arnisha Dobbey threw four innings in the first game and three in the second.

The Lady Braves improved to 5-0 all-time against Rust College.

Alcorn has now used 20 different batting orders in 21 games this year.

"Now, we are on to step one for conference tomorrow in Baton Rouge," Rankin said.

The conference opener for the Lady Braves will be tomorrow when they head to Southern at 3 p.m. at Oak Villa BREC Park. The teams will also play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
