Alcorn Game Notes | Live Stats

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
Two streaking teams will go head-to-head Tuesday when the Alcorn State University softball program travels to Memphis for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at the Tigers Softball Complex.

The Lady Braves (5-19, 2-1 SWAC) have won four of their last five games, while the Tigers (23-8, 2-1 AAC) have won six of the last seven. Memphis is No. 55 in the country according to Monday's NCAA RPI rankings.

Alcorn opened conference play this past weekend by taking two of three from Southern. The Lady Braves dropped the opener in nine innings before coming back to sweep Saturday's doubleheader 16-2 and 8-4. The 16 runs scored were the most in a conference game by Alcorn since 2004 in a 16-12 victory over Jackson State. The Lady Braves did not commit an error in either game Saturday.

The Lady Braves swept a doubleheader over Rust College last week with a pair of 13-0 wins. Alcorn did not allow a hit in either game as freshman Lindsey Eldridge tossed a perfect game and junior Paige Taylor fired a no-hitter. The duo combined for 24 strikeouts in the two games. The Lady Braves improved to 5-0 all-time against Rust.

Freshman Amari Ramsey is riding a 12-game hitting-streak and 14-game on-base streak. She was 4-for-10 over the weekend against Southern with three doubles. Ramsey has hit three homers this year and leads the team with a .561 slugging percentage.

Senior first baseman Taylor Hughes leads the Lady Braves with a .424 batting average and .500 on-base percentage. She's the all-time hits leader at Alcorn with 170 in four years. Hughes also ranks second in the school record book in doubles (30) and RBI's (96), top-five in runs scored (86) and walks (57), and 11th in triples (6).

Freshman Desirea Lindsey turned in a four-for-four performance in game two against the Jaguars. She's the only Lady Brave to tally four hits in a game this year.

Alcorn is 5-0 this season when it scores at least eight runs.

The Lady Braves have mixed and matched their lineups all season and have used 21 different batting orders.

The Tigers are led by Baylee Smith who hits for a .450 average and .550 slugging. Kyler Trosclair carries a .449 average and .626 slugging with eight triples. Ashley Threatt has hit a team-high six homers this year and has a .350 average and .675 slugging.

In the circle, Memphis is paced by Molly Smith who holds a 13-3 record and 1.41 ERA. She's made 19 starts with 12 complete games. She's thrown 124.1 innings with 135 strikeouts.

The Lady Braves are looking to beat Memphis for the second time in school history. The two teams have played 18 times previously. The lone win came in 2012 by the score of 3-0.

Alcorn was originally scheduled to play Texas A&M-Texarkana on Thursday, but the doubleheader has been canceled and will not be made up. The Lady Braves will have this upcoming weekend off from competition.
