THIBODAUX, La. – A pair of 9-0 scores went in favor of Nicholls State in non-conference matches with the Alcorn State University softball program Tuesday at Swanner Field.
Alcorn (8-27, 5-3 SWAC) reached base five times in the doubleheader. It included an infield single to third in the fourth inning of game one by freshman
Desirea Lindsey.
"Nicholls did a great job today and pitched really well. We had one hit in 11 innings on the day; we probably aren't going to be too competitive no matter who the opponent is doing that. Sooner or later, we will get to a point where the opponent doesn't matter. We will find a way as a program to play to that standard no matter where we are and what day of the week it is," said head coach
Josef Rankin. "We are getting an opportunity to play such a great game and we must appreciate every moment we get to do that."
Nicholls (27-13, 12-6 SLC) sits in first-place in the Southland Conference standings. Alexis LaBure tossed a no-hitter in game two with three walks. Megan Landry and Amanda Holliday combined to allow one hit in five innings in game one.
Alcorn used four different pitchers in the two games including senior
Robin Harrison, junior
Winter Ridgeway, sophomore
Ambria Dorsey and freshman
Lindsey Eldridge.
Freshman
Teona Bowles made her third start of the season in game two and drew a walk while playing right field.
"We will go back to work tomorrow and Thursday and get ready for a good Alabama A&M team which is playing extremely well," Rankin said.
Alcorn will return home this weekend for a three-game series against Alabama A&M. Game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at the Alcorn Softball Complex.
