Crucial Make-Up Game Between Alcorn, Alabama State Scheduled for Tuesday

LORMAN, Miss. – With first-place and tiebreakers on the table, the Alcorn State University softball program will host Alabama State at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Alcorn Softball Complex in a game that was previously rained out.
 
In a very tight SWAC East Division race, the Lady Braves are in a three-way tie for first-place at 9-5 with Alabama State and Alabama A&M. The Lady Braves and the Hornets split a doubleheader on April 13. The winner of Tuesday's game will not only leap into first-place by itself, but also hold the tiebreaker.
 
Alcorn is also one win away from posting three consecutive winning seasons in conference for the first time in program history. The Lady Braves are 22-10 SWAC over the last two seasons and 33-17 SWAC over the last three years.
 
The Lady Braves have won four of the last five against Alabama State dating back to last season.
 
Alcorn registered a three-game sweep over AAMU on April 20-21 to have the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs. The Lady Braves outscored the Bulldogs 31-10 and outhit them 33-14. Alcorn has won eight of the last nine vs. AAMU dating back to 2016.
 
The Lady Braves have outscored SWAC opponents 110-56 this season. In conference games only, freshman Amari Ramsey is hitting for a .417 average and .708 slugging.
 
Alcorn is 10-0 this season when it scores at least eight runs in a game. The Lady Braves have mixed and matched their lineups all season and have used 35 different batting orders.
 
Senior Taylor Hughes leads the Lady Braves with a .357 batting average and .457 on-base percentage. She's the school's all-time leader in both hits (183) and doubles (34). Hughes also ranks second all-time in school history in RBI's (105), third in runs scored (95), fourth in walks (66) and 11th in triples (6). Hughes has etched a team-high 14 multi-hit games this year.
 
Ramsey carries a .347 average and team-high .589 slugging. She's tallied 18 extra-base hits which includes 11 doubles, two triples and five homers. Ramsey is a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts. She notched an 18-game hitting streak and 20-game on-base streak earlier this year.
 
In the circle, sophomore Ambria Dorsey is coming off a solid weekend where she did not allow an earned run in two appearances. She struck out five batters in 6.2 innings and limited Mississippi Valley State to a .174 batting average.
 
Alabama State took two out of three from Jackson State this past weekend at home. It included a two-run walk-off homer in game three by Natalia Rivera.
 
Kaylee Davis leads the team on the season with a .333 average. Hailey Walker hits for a .302 average with a team-high .479 slugging. Justine Jean has thrown 121.1 innings on the mound with a 9-9 record and a pair of shutouts.
 
Alcorn will wrap-up the regular season Thursday and Friday at home against Texas Southern. Friday will be Senior Day as the Lady Braves honor seniors Robin Harrison, Mariah Ortiz and Hughes.
