Alcorn Game Notes | Live Stats | Watch Online

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Stepping aside from conference play for a game, the Alcorn State University softball program will take on Mississippi State at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Nusz Park.

The game can be watched online at WatchESPN or the SEC Network+.

Alcorn (7-23, 4-2 SWAC) is coming off a weekend where it won a SWAC series over Jackson State. The Lady Braves outscored the Lady Tigers 32-12 over the three games. Additionally, the 18 runs scored in game one were the most by Alcorn in a conference game since 2012.

Freshman Amari Ramsey is riding an 18-game hitting-streak and 20-game on-base streak. She was 6-for-12 (.500) this weekend against JSU with three doubles and four runs scored. Ramsey is hitting for a .368 average, .425 on-base percentage and a team-high .586 slugging on the year.

Senior first baseman Taylor Hughes leads the Lady Braves with a .395 batting average and .490 on-base percentage. She's the all-time hits leader at Alcorn with 174 in four years. Hughes also ranks second in the school record book in doubles (30) and RBI's (98), third in runs scored (91), fourth in walks (60) and 11th in triples (6). Hughes has won SWAC Hitter of the Week twice this year.

The Lady Braves are 7-0 this season when they score at least eight runs. They did it twice this weekend at JSU.

Freshman Desirea Lindsey is coming off a hot weekend at the plate where she went five-for-nine (.556) with four runs scored. Lindsey is the only Lady Brave to notch four hits in a game as she went four-for-four in game two at Southern on March 24.

Alcorn will play at Nusz Park for the second time this season. It participated in the Mississippi State Tournament on March 2-4 when junior Paige Taylor stood out in the circle. Taylor was awarded SWAC Pitcher of the Week on March 5 after pitching a gem against Sam Houston State with a complete-game of 7.0 innings. She allowed just one run to keep Alcorn within striking distance the entire game despite a 1-0 loss. On the weekend, Taylor registered a 2.42 ERA and limited the opposition to a .257 batting average.

The Lady Braves and the Bulldogs (29-11, 4-8 SEC) will meet for the seventh time in the all-time series. Last year, the Bulldogs came to Lorman and came out on top 6-0. Alcorn is looking for its first-ever win in the series.

MSU is led by Mia Davidson who hits for a .409 average and a whopping .843 slugging. She's smashed 13 homers on the year. In the circle, the Bulldogs have three pitchers who have an ERA under 2.00. Holly Ward has thrown 102.1 innings with a 10-4 record and 1.57 ERA.

The Lady Braves have mixed and matched their lineups all season and have used 25 different batting orders. Though, they used the same lineup in all three games against Jackson State.

Alcorn will return to conference action this weekend when it hosts Alabama State at the Alcorn Softball Complex. The schedule has shifted to a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Friday and a single-game Saturday tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m.
