LORMAN, Miss. – With the opportunity to win its second consecutive SWAC East Division title, the Alcorn State University softball program will conclude the regular season Thursday and Friday against Texas Southern at the Alcorn Softball Complex.

Alcorn (13-31, 10-5 SWAC) and TSU (20-15-1, 11-4 SWAC) will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Thursday. The teams will close out the series Friday at 1 p.m. on Senior Day. The Lady Braves will honor seniors
Robin Harrison,
Taylor Hughes and
Mariah Ortiz in a ceremony starting at 12:15 p.m. Friday.

The series is a showdown between the first-place teams in the SWAC standings. The Lady Braves have a 0.5 game lead on Alabama A&M and a 1.0 game lead over Alabama State in the SWAC East Division. AAMU and ASU are scheduled to play each other this weekend in a three-game series. Alcorn has the tiebreaker on both teams.

TSU has a one game lead on both Prairie View A&M and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the SWAC West Division.

The Lady Braves are coming off a 4-2 win over ASU on Tuesday to win the series. Harrison not only picked up the win in the circle, but she also delivered a go-ahead three-run triple at the plate to put Alcorn ahead. The Lady Braves have won five of the last six against the Hornets dating back to last season.

Alcorn posted a three-game sweep over Alabama A&M. The Lady Braves outscored the Bulldogs 31-10 and outhit them 33-14. Alcorn has won eight of the last nine vs. AAMU dating back to 2016.

The Lady Braves have outscored SWAC opponents 114-58 this season. In conference games only, freshman
Amari Ramsey is hitting for a .420 average and .700 slugging.

Hughes leads the Lady Braves on the season with a .350 batting average and .454 on-base percentage. Ramsey carries a .349 average and team-high .587 slugging on the season. She's tallied 18 extra-base hits which includes 11 doubles, two triples and five homers. Ramsey is a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts. She notched an 18-game hitting streak and 20-game on-base streak earlier this year.

The Lady Braves have mixed and matched their lineups all season and have used 35 different batting orders. Alcorn is 10-0 this season when it scores at least eight runs in a game.

The Tigers are led by the pitching duo of Jasmin Fulmore and Lauren Rodriguez. Fulmore has a 2.21 ERA and is 5-5 on the year in 69.2 innings. Rodriguez has a 2.32 ERA and is 10-1 on the season in 69.1 innings.

At the plate, Ebony Wiltz hits for a team-high .371 average, while Jocilynn Ellis has a .342 average and .438 slugging.

The 2018 SWAC Championships are slated for May 9-12 in Montgomery, Alabama on the campus of Alabama State University.
