LORMAN, Miss. – Head coach
Brian Johnson and the Alcorn State University women's track and field program announced the signing of three student-athletes Wednesday.
"I'm excited to have these three join us next year," said Johnson. "We get another girl that can compete in the hurdles and a pair of 100-meter girls that will strengthen our chances of making it to the NCAA East Regionals in the 4x100."
Joining the Lady Braves next season are Mya Greene, Shamarah Shannon, and Tadrian Rose. Greene, a native of Rialto, Calif., ran a 9.04 in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season. She recorded a 14.16 in the 100-meter hurdles and a 42.32 in the 300-meter hurdles, where she currently ranks 20th in the country. A product of Wilmer Amina Carter High School, she also competed in the long jump with a best leap of 17-9.50 feet.
A product of Miami Northwestern High School in Miami, Fla., Shannon turned in an 11.78 in the 100 meters, a 24.20 in the 200 meters, and a 57.60 in the 400 meters. As a freshman in high school, she won the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Freshman 100-meter race with a time of 11.95 in 2015.
Rose, a transfer from Texas-San Antonio, has clocked top times with a 7.52 in the 60-meter dash during the indoor season, an 11.83 in the 100-meter dash, and a 24.60 in the 200-meter dash. In her freshman year for the Roadrunners, the Killeen, Texas native posted a 7.59 to place 11th in the 60-meter dash at the Conference USA Indoor Championships on Feb. 18-19.
