Cross Country Announces 2018 Schedule

LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State men's and women's cross country teams and head coach Brian Johnson released their respective 2018 schedules Wednesday evening.

"I am excited about the new year coming up," said Johnson. "Most of our team remains the same and we add 10 kids between both teams. It's time to pick up where we left off and become that championship team I think we're capable of becoming."

This Fall sees the Braves and Lady Braves opening with a trip to Mississippi College's Choctaw Trails course for the Mississippi College Season Opener on Aug. 31. The men will run an 8K race beginning at 5 p.m. and the women will compete in a 5K race at 5:45 p.m.

Alcorn follows with a trip to Ruston, Louisiana on Sept. 15 for the Louisiana Tech Mook 4 Invitational at Tech Farm. The men's 4-mile race is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start, with the women's 4K race to follow at 9:15 a.m.

Both teams will wrap up the month of September at the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede, held on Sept. 29 at the Enos Darbonne Multisports Complex in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Lady Braves will run first in the women's 5K, set to begin at 8:30 am. The Braves will run in the men's 4-miler at 9 a.m.

The Purple and Gold then return to Choctaw Trails two Saturdays in a row to conclude the regular season. Alcorn will head back to Clinton, Mississippi for the Watson Ford Invitational on Oct. 6, followed by MC's College Invitational on Oct. 13.

The 2018 SWAC Championships will be held Monday, Oct. 22, marking the teams' fourth trip to Choctaw.
