Alcorn Introduces Clear Bag Policy at Home Athletic Events

LORMAN, Miss. – Beginning in 2018-19, Alcorn State University will introduce a clear bag policy at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium and the Davey L. Whitney Complex for athletic events.
 
The clear bag policy approves only bags at a maximum of 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag.
 
"The safety of our fans, staff and student-athletes is a high priority to us and the reason why we're implementing a clear bag policy at our home matches moving forward," said director of athletics Derek Horne. "We have experienced these same measures when we go on the road for athletic contests and it has become a standard around the country at both the collegiate and professional levels."
 
Alcorn will allow small transparent clutch bags no larger than 4.5 inches x 6.5 inches. Bags that are necessary for medical purposes are permitted but still subject to search. No other bags or purses, including diaper bags that are not clear will be permitted.
 
"This policy provides our security staff with greater visibility for items being brought into our facilities – not only at the gates but also in our parking lots, tailgate areas and inside the venue," said assistant athletic director for business operations/director of parking services Shundera Stallings. "The decision to create a clear bag policy was made after careful consideration and discussion among members of the athletic and University staff. Ultimately, the goal was to create a safer environment for our fans."
 
Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to purses larger than a clutch bag, briefcases, backpacks, cinch bags, fanny packs that are not clear and/or exceed the size restriction, luggage of any kind, computer bags/cases, camera bags/cases, binocular bags/cases or any bag larger than the permissible size.
 
All items, including clear bags and clutch purses, are subject to search at all gates. No items can be left or stored at the gates.
 
This policy pertains to bags and is not an all-inclusive list of items that are prohibited from being taken into the venue.
 
Permitted Items
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12x6x12 inches
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar)
- Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, which do not exceed 4.5x6.5 inches (approximately the size of a hand)
- An approved logo no larger than 4.5x3.4 may be displaced on one or both sides of a permissible clear bag
- An exception may be made for medically necessary items
