LORMAN, Miss. – STATS FCS released its Preseason Top-25 rankings, and the Alcorn State University football program received two votes.

Alcorn was one of just two teams from the SWAC mentioned in the FCS poll along with Grambling State which is also receiving votes.

The Braves are the four-time defending SWAC East Division champions and were picked to win the division title again in the 2018 SWAC Preseason Poll. Alcorn landed 11 student-athletes on the SWAC Preseason All-Conference Teams, four on the HBCU Preseason All-America Team and senior
P.J. Simmons was named the SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and on the Walter Payton Award Watch List.

A national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries select the STATS FCS Top 25. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.

The Top 25 will be released every Monday afternoon during the regular season, except for Sunday morning, Nov. 18, prior to the selection of the 24-team FCS playoff field. A final Top 25 will follow the FCS championship game, which will be held Jan. 5 in Frisco, Texas.

The Braves are 25 days away from their season-opener at Georgia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 12:30 p.m. (EST) at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Tickets are on sale for $30 in Section 130 and can be reserved by calling the Alcorn ticket office at 601-877-6822 or 6818 or 6823.
