RUSTON, La. – Continuing to pace the Alcorn State University cross country programs, senior
Angelica Jacobs placed 12th at a competitive Mook 4 Invitational on Friday morning at Louisiana Tech Farm.
Alcorn competed against LA Tech, Northwestern State, Grambling State, UL-Monroe, Jackson State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The women finished fifth as a team, while the men took sixth.
"We're seeing improvement each week and our student-athletes are getting in better shape," said Alcorn coach
Sandra Glover. "We have to keep pushing through each competition to build up to conference. The goal is for everyone to be in top form at conference."
Jacobs crossed the finish line with a 4K time of 16:57.3. The Houston, Texas native has been Alcorn's top finisher in every meet in her career.
Another strong performance came from senior
YeKeshia Royal. She clocked in at 17:46.4 which was good for 16th. Freshman
Makayla Gates placed 22nd with a score of 18:15.5.
"The women are doing really well. Angelica ran a strong race and YeKeshia is really starting to hit her stride. Makalya ran well for a freshman, and the ladies are starting to feed off each other as a group. If they keep working hard and can stick together, we really can have a strong showing at conference at the end of the year," Glover said.
Sophomore
Lamaj Curry was out in front for the men with a 4-mile time of 23:57.1. He averaged 5:57.9 per mile to end in 32nd.
Junior
Tyreq Miles notched a 25:10.7 time to grab 39th, while sophomore Titus Kibii registered a 26:13.7 to finish in 41st.
