HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Although the Alcorn State University men's tennis program fell 7-0 to Southern Miss, the Braves put up a fight at several positions Monday at the USM Tennis Courts.

To get it started, the Braves (0-5) picked up games at all three doubles matches. At the top spot, senior
Nuno Rocha and sophomore
Johnatan Parat were edged 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Stojan Stojanovski and freshman
Gjorgji Popovski trailed just 4-3 with USM (3-0) clinched the doubles point.

In singles, Parat narrowly surrendered a pair of sets at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-4. Popovski had the same fate at No. 3 singles as he got to a first set tiebreaker, but fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Rocha picked up six games at No. 5 singles in a 6-3, 6-3 defeat.

The Braves have played a grueling schedule to date with defeats to UL-Lafayette and undefeated Tulane and USM squads.

Both the Alcorn men and women will be home Friday when they host New Orleans at 1 p.m. at the Alcorn Tennis Courts.
