Alcorn Saddened by Loss of Michael Fantroy

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University department of athletics mourned the loss of former football student-athlete and coach Michael Fantroy after he passed away Thursday.

Fantroy was a four-year letterwinner with the Alcorn football program from 1979-82. He was part of the 1979 SWAC Championship team that finished the season with an 8-2 record under head coach Marino Casem. Fantroy graduated from Alcorn in May 1983.

Upon graduation, Fantroy stayed on campus and served as a graduate assistant coach. The Mobile, Alabama native went on to become a head coach at Concordia College in Alabama.

In 2012, Fantroy returned to Alcorn and served on the coaching staff as the wide receivers coach.

Fantroy was on campus two weeks ago for the 1979 team reunion. He was recognized on the field alongside his teammates prior to the win over Southern.
