LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University track & field program has inked two quality runners to provide more speed and depth for the upcoming indoor and outdoor 2020 seasons.
The 2020 class includes University of New Orleans freshman transfer Terrell White and freshman Runelda Jackson.
White, a native of Fort Myers, Florida, ran cross country at UNO in the fall before transferring to The Reservation. He was a 2A District 12 champion in the 400m as a senior at Dunbar High School while placing as the 2A District 12 Runner-Up for cross country as a junior. He qualified for States in each of his final three years as a cross country runner at Dunbar as well. His personal records include a 48.98 during the 400m, a 2:00.98 running the 800m and a 16:55.46 in the 5K.
"Terrell will be an excellent addition to our men's team," said assistant coach
Wesley Stephens. "He gives us depth at 800m and 400m with the ability to help us in the fall as well."
Jackson, a Wellington, Florida who competed at Palm Beach Central High School, won the 4A District 10 championship for the 800, 1600m and 3200m last season to go along with being the cross country champion in 2018. She earned a 4A Region 3 Runner-up finish in the 800m and 3200m in 2019 and qualified for States in cross country (2018) in addition to earning top-20 placements for the 800m and 3200m after qualifying in 2019. Her personal records include a 2:20.87 running the 800m, a 5:17.23 during the 1600m, posted a time of 11:43.84 during the 3200m and a 19:51.03 in the 5K.
"Runelda will be a key piece to the future of our women's program," Coach Stephens said. "Her range from 800m to 5K will prove to be a vital asset to a talented senior laden women's team."
