CLEVELAND, Miss. – The first win of the season came Tuesday for the Alcorn State University women's tennis program as it took down Delta State 4-2, but the men fell 4-0 at Delta State's Tennis Courts.
The Lady Braves got it started with a pair of clutch doubles wins. After dropping the No. 3 position 6-0, both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles went to a tiebreaker. The teams of

Klavdija Bukovec pulled out 7-6 victories.

It was an undefeated day for both Grlj and Vaganova who also won in singles. Vaganova ousted Nathalia Sato 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Grlj dismissed Ione Deroode 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3. Alcorn also picked up a win at No. 5 where
Veronika Pytlikova topped Sophie St. Amant 6-1, 6-1.

"I'm so happy for my first win as head coach and I'm hoping this is the first of many more to come. I am proud of how the team is competing. Even though we still don't have our full roster yet we still gave it our best," said first-year head coach

On the men's side, the Braves surrendered the doubles point but won the No. 3 court. The duo of

Nuno Rocha beat Timo Schmitz/Leo De Sousa 6-3.

Although the singles matches didn't go Alcorn's way, sophomore
Johnatan Parat was all knotted up at No. 1 singles. He won the first set 6-3 but dropped the second 7-6 when the Statesmen clinched.

Up next, the Lady Braves will head to Ole Miss tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match. The Braves will compete in the Ragin' Cajun Invitational in Lafayette, Louisiana beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.
