LORMAN, Miss. – Finishing a stretch of four matches in three days, the Alcorn State University women's tennis program dropped a doubleheader to Mississippi State 7-0 and 4-0 on the road before falling to Southeastern Louisiana 4-0 at the Alcorn Tennis Courts.

Against Mississippi State (4-2), the Lady Braves hand their hands full at the top as they squared off against a pair of nationally ranked singles players. Junior
Anastasia Vaganova was able to pull out three games in a 6-2, 6-1 defeat to No. 55 Emma Antonaki.

Senior
Bianca Birkenstock went up against both of the top-60 players, but fell 6-1, 6-0 to No. 56 Magda Adaloglou in the first match, and was trailing 6-1, 2-1 to Antonaki in the second when the Bulldogs clinched.

The Lady Braves posted much closer scores against SLU (2-1), despite having just four student-athletes due to injuries. The doubles team of Birkenstock and Vaganova nearly picked up a win, but the match went unfinished with them ahead 5-3 at the No. 1 spot.

In singles, Vaganova was down a set 6-4 but leading the second 3-2 at the No. 2 position when the Lady Lions clinched. Junior Pytlikova was also battling at No. 4 singles 1-6, 4-5.

Both the Alcorn men and women will be in action Friday at home when they host Jacksonville State at 10 a.m. at the Alcorn Tennis Courts.
