EDINBURG, Texas – Coming off one of its best outings of the year, the Alcorn State University men's tennis program will play a neutral site match against Nicholls at 11 a.m. Saturday before taking on host Texas Rio Grande Valley at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

The Braves defeated Mississippi College 4-1 on Wednesday. They picked up singles victories from senior
Nuno Rocha, juniors
Gjorgji Popovski and sophomore
Stojan Stojanovski. It came after they clinched the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots.

Alcorn has been strong at the top all season. Popovski and sophomore
Johnatan Parat lead the team with three wins apiece, primarily playing No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Rocha clinched the MC match with a three-set win at No. 4 singles including a 7-6 third set.

The Braves have won the doubles point in each of their last two matches. Prior to MC, they won courts No. 2 and 3 against Prairie View A&M. Alcorn has mixed and matched its doubles teams all year, but the duo of Rocha and freshman
Kareem Bowe are 3-2 on the season including 2-0 SWAC.

Nicholls is 2-7 with two victories over the SWAC. The Colonials topped Prairie View A&M 5-2 and Jackson State 4-1.

UTRGV is 2-14 overall, but similar to Nicholls, both of its wins have come against the SWAC. The Vaqueros defeated Alabama State 4-1 and Prairie View A&M 4-0.

The Alcorn women are off until Thursday, April 4 when they take on Jackson State at 12 p.m. in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
