Tennis in Vicksburg against Jackson State Moved to Wednesday

VICKSBURG, Miss. – To help dodge impending weather, the Alcorn State University men's and women's tennis programs will square off with Jackson State at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Halls Ferry Tennis Courts.
 
The matches were moved up 24 hours from the original slated date.
 
Both the Alcorn men and women have already solidified spots in the SWAC Championships. The women are 3-3 SWAC, while the men are 1-3. Alcorn and Jackson State are both playing for seeding.
 
The men have been coming on strong as of late which included a 4-1 victory over Mississippi College. Junior Gjorgji Popovski has emerged as the team's No. 1 singles player where he is 2-3 on the year. Sophomore Johnatan Parat has turned in a solid season thus far, including a win over Louisiana-Lafayette.
 
The women have won two of their last three matches including victories over Grambling State 4-1 and Prairie View A&M 4-1. Junior Anastasia Vaganova hoists a perfect 4-0 singles record at the No. 2 position. The Lady Braves got a boost to their lineup with the return of senior Ammaarah Tim who missed the first two months of the season due to injury.
 
The Braves will look to beat JSU for the second straight year after posting a 4-1 win last season. The Lady Braves fell 4-2. The JSU men are 2-1 SWAC this year, while the women are 3-2.
 
Alcorn will close the regular season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The match is tentatively scheduled for Friday, but could be moved due to weather. The 2019 SWAC Championships will be played on April 12-14 in New Orleans.
