Johnson, Muhammad to Represent Alcorn at SWAC Media Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Accompanying head coach Fred McNair from the Alcorn State University football program at 2019 SWAC Media Day will be seniors Noah Johnson and Solomon Muhammad.

The event is set for Tuesday, July 16 at the Westin-Birmingham (2221 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd North). All 10 SWAC head football coaches and two student-athletes from each team will be in attendance to address the media about the upcoming 2019 football season.

"Noah and Solomon have been here with me ever since I became head coach at Alcorn. They've both shown tremendous growth over the years and set the example for the younger guys with their work-ethic," McNair said. "Especially this past spring, Noah and Solomon took it upon themselves to be leaders of this team. They've come a long way in their development."

Johnson, a quarterback from Tampa, Florida, was the 2018 SWAC Offensive Player of the Year and SWAC Championship Offensive MVP. He threw for 2,207 yards and 15 touchdowns, and rushed for 1,080 yards and 11 touchdowns. Johnson ranked third in the nation in rushing yards per carry (7.5) and 16th in completion percentage (.621). It will be a trip home for Muhammad, a linebacker from Birmingham. He's coming off a big year in 2018 where he was named an HBCU All-American and a SWAC All-Conference First-Team selection. Muhammad finished second on the team in tackles with 64 despite missing two games. He also wrapped up 4.0 sacks and 9.0 tackles for a loss. Muhammad helped Alcorn lead the nation in sacks per game.
