LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University department of athletics have announced the additions of Justin Amstutz as the new Coordinator of Athletic Operations, and
Bradford Shedrick as the Equipment Manager.
"Growing up and learning about the history of the SWAC and its member institutions makes me appreciate being the new Coordinator of Athletic Operations here," Amstutz said. "I am here to support and make life easier for our student-athletes, coaches, staff and make the environment enjoyable to the Alumni and fans of this great university."
Prior to landing a job on The Reservation, Amstutz served at Texas A&M University as the Fan Experience Coordinator and also worked with Facilities and Operations. He also spent time as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in College Station.
Amstutz has had plenty of gameday operations experience in a multitude of high-profile organizations such as the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, NCAA Football Sub-Division Championship (FCS) and the University of Wyoming.
Amstutz earned his bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership from Wyoming and followed that up with a master's degree in Sport Management from Texas A&M University.
Shedrick is no stranger to the university as he has worked as the athletic department's fitness coordinator and has most recently served as an academic advisor for student-athletes.
"I plan to use my knowledge, skill, and character to my advantage to make the best of this opportunity as the Equipment Manager," said Shedrick. "Moreover, the passion that I have for Health & Wellness and better quality of life has always been a flame in heart that will never die out."
While in the role of fitness coordinator, Shedrick helped host two summer camps in conjunction with Dr. Dongwook Cho to help decrease the obesity rate of the local communities through sporting events while also serving as a public speaker at area schools to promote awareness on the importance of students' long-term health.
Shedrick was also a key component in creating the fitness center on campus that is located inside the student union adjacent to the Post Office. He graduated from Alcorn in 2015 with a degree in recreational studies.
"Justin and Brad both have a lot of passion for athletics and are eager to come in and strengthen our department. Justin will play an important role on gamedays, as well as assist with administrative duties. Bradford comes from a family of Alcornites and has already worked with student-athletes in different capacities. We're very excited to have both of them," said director of athletics
Derek Horne.
