Braves Gain Experience in Season-Openers at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – Playing shorthanded, the Alcorn State University men's tennis program battled at LSU despite a pair of defeats 7-0 and 4-0 on Sunday at the LSU Tennis Courts.
 
Freshman Lucas Dini turned in a strong showing in his first-ever collegiate meet. At No. 3 singles, he gave LSU's Rafael Wagner all he could handle in a 6-4, 6-7, 11-9 decision. In Dini's second match, he trailed just 6-5 in the first set when the Tigers clinched the match.
 
Another close court came at No. 2 singles where junior Stojan Stojanovski dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Malik Bhatnagar. Stojanovski is a two-time All-Conference First-Team selection.
 
"I'm proud of the way the guys came out and handled such a tough opponent like LSU. The guys fought hard and we got to see where we stand as a team. They set the standard for a high level of play and we are ready to return to campus and get back to work," said first-year head coach Darnesha Moore.

Alcorn is in the process of clearing a sixth student-athlete for the roster.
 
The Braves will be back in action Friday when they play their home-opener against Eastern Illinois at 10 a.m. at the Alcorn Tennis Courts. The match will also be the season-opener for the women.
