LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University men's and women's track program will look to build upon its success at the Vulcan Invite as it makes a return trip to the Birmingham Crossplex for the Samford Indoor Clash.

"We are working to get better every meet and compete at the highest level of competition," said head coach Jimmy Joseph.

There will be 16 other universities competing with Alcorn including Georgia State, Ole Miss, Central Arkansas, Western Kentucky, Troy, Montevallo, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Jackson State, Meridian CC, Voorhees, Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Samford (host), Xavier (La.) and Mobile.

The Clash will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the women's weight throw to start the field portion of the day while the running events will start courtesy of the women's 5000 meter run at 9:00 a.m.

The purple and gold saw two of its student-athletes land trips to the semifinals last weekend as sophomore JaKobe Rogers finished top-15 with a personal-record of 6.99 in the 60m dash while junior De'Kari Courtney ran the 60m hurdles in 9.27 seconds during her semis appearance.

Rogers not only got through the preliminaries in the 60m but also notched a new low time in the 200m as well, coming in at 22.53.

Courtney set a new personal-best in the 4x100 relays as she helped her team finish in 4:10.31 to go along with posting a 1.55m high jump.

The Braves had a superb showing from all of its participants in the 60m dash as juniors Kamathe Daniel (7.20) and Marcus Sims (7.23) each bested their previous personal-best marks in the event. Fellow junior Braheem Bishop raised the bar, literally, topping his previous high score with a 1.91m high jump, good enough for a top-ten placement in the event. Another junior in Josias Jean set a career-low time when he ran a 50.26 400m to claim sixth place.

For the Lady Braves, the 4x400 relay team had a quality showing by logging a fifth place finish as junior Hali Jones, junior Mya Lloyd, senior Ty'Mesha Nabors and senior Nathalya McMillion turned in a 4:03.45 score. Lloyd had the best individual outing of the day, placing top-five during the 200m at a pace of 25.83 seconds.
