Four Student-Athletes Place Top-Eight At Samford Indoor Clash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alcorn State University men's and women's track teams had three personal-records fall and saw gradual improvement across the board in its second meet of the season.

"The kids came out aggressive, made finals in multiple events, dropped times in most races and did a great job of representing Alcorn," said head coach Jimmy Joseph. "We look forward to getting better every week!"

Sophomore JaKobe Rogers was sensational for the second straight meet, reaching the finals in the 60m dash with a personal-best time of 6.94 seconds and a fifth place finish.

Junior Kamathe Daniel had the Braves other personal-record on the day, running a new low mark in the 60m for the second consecutive week, coming in at 7.18.

Senior Ty'Mesha Nabors was the lone Lady Brave to topple a personal-best, posting a 59.21 400m en route to seventh place.

Senior Nathalya McMillion and junior Josias Jean each logged eighth place finishes in the 400m, running a 59.30 and 50.32, respectively.

In the field events, junior Braheem Bishop, senior James Graves and senior Justice Edwards all had top-15 placements. Bishop was the highest finished as he came in tenth with a 1.85m high jump. Edwards recorded a 12th place distance in the long jump (5.03m) and Graves finished 14th for his 6.01m leap in the long jump as well.

The Lady Braves 1600-meter relay team of McMillion, Nabors, junior Hali Jones and senior Shaquanda Hill had the best finish of all Alcorn athletes as they combined to earn fourth place with an excellent time of 3:58.45.

The Braves and Lady Braves teams will be back in Birmingham once again next weekend when they take part in the Green and Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
