Alcorn Releases 2020 Tennis Schedules, Braves in Action Sunday at LSU

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University men's and women's tennis programs announced their 2020 schedules under first-year head coach Darnesha Moore.
 
The men will get underway Sunday with a 12 p.m. trip to LSU. Both the men and women will play their home openers on Friday, Jan. 17 when they host Eastern Illinois at 10 a.m. at the Alcorn Tennis Courts.
 
"I'm really excited to begin my first season this weekend. It will be a great experience for the men to play against such a quality opponent like LSU," said Moore. "When creating the schedules, the goal for both the men and women was to play competitive matches to prepare us for SWAC play. We can't wait to get started."
 
EIU will be the first of six home matches slated for Alcorn. The Braves will also host Jacksonville State (Jan. 30), Troy (Feb. 9), Delta State (Feb. 17), Texas-Rio Grande Valley (March 2) and William Carey (April 2).
 
Other marquee non-conference match-ups include trips to UL-Lafayette and Southern Miss for the men, and Tulane, Ole Miss and Alabama for the women.
 
Conference play begins Feb. 21 in Jackson, Mississippi for the first of two SWAC Round-Ups. The second will be held in Montgomery, Alabama beginning March 13.
 
The 2020 SWAC Championships will be held April 10-12 at the Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans.
 
The Braves return four of six starters from last year. It includes No. 1 and 2 singles players Gjorgji Popovski and Stojan Stojanovski. The Lady Braves are headlined by Stefany Grlj who finished last season at No. 1 singles as a freshman and aided Alcorn to the finals of the SWAC Championships.
