LORMAN, Miss. – In an effort to raise awareness about promoting inclusive environments in collegiate athletics across the country, the Alcorn State University Department of Athletics supported the third annual NCAA Diversity and Inclusion campaign this week.
Â
The national three-day event kicks off Tuesday when student-athletes focus on the "My Story Matters" theme that represents who they as individuals. The purpose is for student-athletes to showcase how they are more than just an athlete and to show how their stories can make a difference. Student-athletes are encouraged to post pictures of themselves on social media highlighting activities they enjoy doing using the hashtag #NCAAInclusion.
Â
Wednesday's theme is "I've Got Your Back" and student-athletes will speak to what Black Lives Matter means to them. Being a good teammate means looking out for those individuals who face additional barriers created by racial inequity.
Â
The final day is "Together We Rise" on Thursday. Administrators, coaches and staff will capture what diversity and inclusion means to them and how they carry their message on and off the field/court to sustain excellence.
Â
The NCAA office of inclusion advances diversity, equity and inclusion in college athletics for over 1,100 member schools and athletics conferences. The office supports student-athletes and individuals who teach and lead across the core areas of disability, international, LGBTQ, race/ethnicity and women.
