LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University track & field program will spend Super Bowl Sunday putting in work as the Braves and Lady Braves will compete in its final regular season meet before the SWAC Championships at the Jaguar Invitational inside the Birmingham Crossplex.

"We are going to put maximal effort into every event we are competing in and strive for perfection throughout the meet," said head coach Jimmy Joseph.

There will be 16 other universities competing with Alcorn including Samford, Georgia State, South Alabama (host), Alabama State, Memphis, Christian Brothers, West Georgia, Alabama-Huntsville, Mississippi Valley State, Life, Southeastern U, Meridian CC, Saint Leo, Hinds CC, Florida A&M and Austin Peay.

The field events will begin simultaneously with the weight throw, shot put and women's high jump all starting at 12:10 p.m. while the running events will kick off at 12:30 p.m. during the mile.

It will be two weeks on Sunday since the Braves competed last in the Samford Indoor Clash (January 18).

Sophomore JaKobe Rogers headlined the men's performances with a finals appearance and a fifth place finish in the 60m dash with a personal-record time of 6.94.

Junior Kamathe Daniel was the other Brave to see a personal-low time fall, running the 60m in 7.18 seconds.

Last time out in the field for the Alcorn men, junior Braheem Bishop earned a top-ten placement with a 1.85m high jump while senior James Graves was top-15 with a leap of 6.01m during the long jump.

As for the Lady Braves, they competed in two separate meets last weekend as they participated in the Green & Gold Invitational on January 24 and 25 before competing in the KMS Invitational on the 26th.

The relay teams stole the show for the females in purple and gold as both the 4x400 relay and distance medley groups placed in the top-five.

The 4x400 relay quartet of senior Nathalya McMillion, junior Hali Jones, senior Ty'Mesha Nabors and senior Shaquanda Hill earned the silver medal on the podium by putting together a mark of 3:56.52.

The distance medley runners; Shaquanda Hill, sophomore Makayla Gates, junior De'Kari Courtney and freshman Runelda Jackson; turned in a fifth-place performance on the opening day of the Green & Gold Invite, clocking in at 13:19.49.

Hill in particular was at the top of her game, running in both relay teams to go along with a runner-up outing in the 600m (1:42.23) and a top-12 time in the 400m (59.87).

Jackson made a good first impression in the 5000m, finishing fourth with a time of 19:36.35 as a first-time runner. She also placed top-12 with a 2:28.23 mark in the 800m.

Gates logged a top-five placement of her own in the 600m, posting a 1:42.91 speed in her first career attempt at the event.
