LORMAN, Miss. – Following a big weekend at the River City Classic, junior
Amari Ramsey from the Alcorn State University softball program earned SWAC Hitter of the Week recognition, the league office announced Wednesday.
Ramsey, from Gulfport, Mississippi, hit for a .529 average, .619 on-base percentage and .824 slugging percentage over seven games. She went 9-for-17 with four walks, five doubles, seven RBIs and seven runs scored.
She started all seven games at third base and led Alcorn to a 4-3 weekend.
"I'm very proud of Amari. She's been putting in extra work to make herself a better hitter. I'm glad to see her getting recognized. She put together some very good at-bats last week," said Alcorn head coach
Josef Rankin.
Ramsey's five doubles moved her up to No. 5 all-time in school history with 26. The career record is 35 held by
Taylor Hughes from 2015-18. Ramsey is also just 12 hits away from becoming the 15th student-athlete in program history to reach 100 in her career.
It's her second career SWAC Hitter of the Week honor. She previously won on March 25, 2019.
