JACKSON, Miss. – In its first conference matches of the season, the Alcorn State University men's and women's tennis programs will compete at SWAC Round-Up beginning Friday, hosted by Jackson State University.

Alcorn will kick it off Friday at 9 a.m. with the men and women taking on Mississippi Valley State. The Lady Braves will square off with Southern at 9 a.m. Saturday, and both teams will wrap it up at 1 p.m. Sunday against Alabama A&M.

The Lady Braves finished 5-3 in conference last season and then made a run to the finals of the SWAC Championships. Senior
Alessandra Maganuco and sophomore
Stefany Grlj are expected to play near the top of the lineup. Freshman
Tangia Riley-Codrington will play in her first-ever conference matches.

The men finished 2-4 in conference last year but are eager to move up the standings. They are led by senior
Gjorgji Popovski who has won four matches at No. 1 singles this season. The Braves have also gotten a boost from freshman
Lucas Dini at the No. 2 and 3 singles positions. Alcorn has a 4-0 win over Florida A&M on its resume this year.

The two SWAC Round-Up weekends are used to determine seedings for the SWAC Championships, which will begin Friday, April 10 in New Orleans.
