LORMAN, Miss. – On a windy Sunday afternoon, the Alcorn State University men's tennis program was topped by Troy 7-0 at the Alcorn Tennis Courts. The women's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by Ole Miss on Saturday on the road.
The men put up a fight on all five singles courts. At No. 2 singles, junior
Stojan Stojanovski led 4-3 in the first set when Oskar Michalek came back to win three straight games and then the second set 6-2.
At No. 1 singles,
Gjorgji Popovski posted the identical score as Stojanovski. After a very tight first set, Pelayo Antuna grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 final.
For the women, the match was played by clinch rules and all matches were stopped once Ole Miss clinched at four courts. Sophomore
Stefany Grlj won two games in the first set at No. 2 singles before the match was stopped.
The Lady Braves will compete again Friday when they travel to Northwestern State for a 2 p.m. match. The Braves will have eight days off before hosting Delta State on Monday, Feb. 17, and the Lady Braves will also play at home that same day.
