Newcomer Austin Bolton Named Academic All-American

LORMAN, Miss. – Junior transfer Austin Bolton from the Alcorn State University football program earned a spot on the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Team for the College Division.
 
Bolton was enrolled at Alcorn in the spring and carries a cumulative 3.82 grade point average. He's majoring in sports management.
 
A running back from Poplarville, Mississippi, Bolton led Mississippi Gulf Coast CC to an NJCAA National Championship with a perfect 12-0 record. He rushed for 841 yards, 13 touchdowns and no fumbles on the season.
 
He was named Most Valuable Player of the Bulldogs' 24-13 win over Lackawanna in the national championship game, and ran 30 times for 116 yards and the game-winning touchdown in the MACJC championship game.   

In high school, Bolton rushed for 2,300 yards and 30 touchdowns his senior year at Poplarville HS. He earned spots on the Mississippi Association of Coaches Class 4A All-State First Team and Sun Herald All-South Mississippi Team. Bolton was selected to play in Bernard Blackwell North/South All-Star Classic. As a junior, he ran 196 times for 1,746 yards and 21 touchdowns, and helped lead Poplaville to the Class 4A state championship game.

Bolton has two years of eligibility remaining at Alcorn.
