Alcorn to Present Rings to Football Program Upon Return of Student-Athletes

LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University will conduct a ceremony to present its 2019 SWAC Championship rings to the football program upon return of the student-athletes on campus.

"Due to the COVID-19 virus, we haven't had the opportunity to present the rings to the entire program. Our desire was to present them in the spring, but we are awaiting the arrival of the team back to campus. As soon as everyone is back, we will have a ring presentation ceremony," said Director of Athletics Derek Horne. "We are incredibly proud of our football program and everything our student-athletes and coaches have accomplished. We can't wait to honor them with their rings and continue celebrating their success."

Classes are set to begin 100 percent online on Monday, August 17, and will remain virtual for the first three weeks of the fall semester. Students will be returning to campus in phases, with in-person courses starting on Wednesday, September 9.

In addition to the championship rings for the football program, Alcorn also offers options for fans. It includes a fan ring, pendant or hinge bracelet. Click here to view the fan order form.

"The fan collection program is an opportunity for our fans to not only receive a personalized jewelry item for keepsake, but to also claim their piece of history. We want this memorable accomplishment to be inclusive for our entire fan base as we celebrate another great year. All proceeds benefit Alcorn Athletics and our mission to support our student-athletes, coaches and staff," Horne said.

The Braves won their second consecutive SWAC Championship and fourth in the last six years with a 39-24 win over Southern on Dec. 7, 2019. Alcorn also won its sixth consecutive SWAC East Division title.

"Before every season, we talk about our goals and becoming champions. These young men worked extremely hard to represent Alcorn State University, and I'm very proud of what they've been able to accomplish. Being honored by both our fans and University means a lot to us and we've very appreciative of the amount of support we receive from everyone involved," said Alcorn head coach Fred McNair.
