BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alcorn State University track & field program saw Arrington and Bralon Robinson (unrelated) carry the majority of the scoring weight on the men's side while Runelda Jackson led the way for the women as both teams placed sixth at the Indoor SWAC Championships.
The future looks bright for Coach Jimmy Joseph's program as three of the five Braves and three of the six Lady Braves who placed in Birmingham are freshmen. That list does not include newcomer Khiah Williams who is a sophomore transfer from Kennesaw State University.
Bralon Robinson continues to pad his resume as he continues trending towards being an all-time great, winning the SWAC Championship in the 60m dash (6.65) and placing fourth in the 200m (22.05). During his illustrious career in Lorman, he has now racked up two SWAC Indoor Championships for the 60m (2018 & 2021), a 2018 SWAC Outdoor Championship in the 100m (10.32) and qualified the NCAA's Outdoor East Preliminary Qualifier for the 100m in that 2018 season.
Freshman Arrington Robinson had the misfortune of running in the same events as Bralon but still scored in each event, finishing sixth in the 200m with a time of 22.27 and seventh for running the 60m in 7.00.
The third and final Brave to earn points in two separate finals appearances was freshman Christian Franklin. While the Robinson men honed their skills on the shorter events, Franklin played the long game, coming in fourth for the 5000m (15:21.45) and fifth in the 3000m (8:38.62).
Peterson Saint-Cyrin and freshman Jachius Spears closed out the point scorers for the men of Alcorn, ranking eighth in the 800m (1:59.84) and seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.56), respectively.
As for the Purple and Gold clad females, Runelda Jackson was the biggest winner of the bunch, securing a silver medal in the 5000m (19:20.51) and fourth place for the 3000m (11:17.33).
Elsewhere inside the CrossPlex, De'Kari Courtney and Khiah Williams each scored a sixth place ranking with Courtney's coming in the 60m hurdles (9.10) and Williams' in the long jump (5.48m).
Samouya Nevers was the last Lady Brave to tally one on the scoreboard in the running events, running a 5:52.92 mile to rank eighth.
In the field, the triple jump was where the females from "The Reservation" shone brightest as freshman Qua'Neshia Tatyana Hamilton came in third (11.96m) and fellow freshman classmate De'Aisha Davis placed fifth (11.59m). Hamilton also scored in the long jump as well, leaping 5.47m to claim seventh.
The Purple and Gold will now set its sights on the outdoor season which begins next Saturday, March 6 with the Jet Relays.
