HAMMOND, La. – The Alcorn State University track & field program saw De'Aisha Davis win two field events, Akili Pleas-Carnie got the gold in a hurdling event and the Braves 4x400 relay team captured first place at Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.
"Our kids did a great job mentally and physically. I'm pleased with their efforts in the conditions we had to compete in," said Head Coach Jimmy Joseph. "We look forward to having continued success through the outdoor season!"
Davis was the ring leader for the Purple and Gold clad ladies from Lorman, leaping her way to glory with a 5.60m long jump and a 11.62m triple jump.
Qua'Neshia Hamilton and Kiana Allen both rounded out the top-three in both the long and triple jumps behind Davis as Hamilton leapt 5.49m (LJ) and 11.60m (TJ) plus Allen went for 5.44m (LJ) and 11.34m (TJ).
Pleas-Carnie showed off both her speed and agility during the 400 hurdles, beating the second place competitor by more than five seconds at 1:05.37. She also was the runner-up during the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.31.
Shameka Grover and Americus Knight each logged second place finishes in the 100m dash (12.12) and high jump (1.54m) for the Lady Braves, respectively.
On the men's side, the quartet of Anthony Morgan, Terrell White, Arrington Robinson and Kaleb Frieson narrowly edged Southern's "A" team to win the 4x400m relay in 3:24.75.
Christian Franklin garnered runner-up status when Franklin logged a 1:56.42 during the 800m dash.
Coach Joseph and the track & field program will embark on its first and only multiple day event of the outdoor regular season next weekend in Texas for the Prairie View Relays.
