HAMMOND, La. – Freshman Akili Pleas-Carnie and sophomore Runelda Jackson each claimed first place finishes in their events on Sunday at the Strawberry Relays hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University.
Pleas-Carnie is a multis runner from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.96 while tacking on a third-place slot in the 100 hurdles as well in 15.25 seconds.
Jackson tasted victory during her 1500m event, beating out her competitors with a 4:53.80 to go along with scoring a point in the 800m at a 2:25.09 clip.
Other notable performers among the Lady Braves included a runner-up showing from An'Twanique Kinsler during the 200m dash (24.48), a bronze-worthy 100m from Shameka Grover (11.98), top-five finishes from both Samouya Nevers (5:08.25, 1500m) and Americus Knight (1.50m, high jump) plus a sixth-place allotment for DeKari Courtney's 100 hurdles time (15.35).
For the Purple and Gold clad men, Jae Sutherland posted the two best placements by the Braves all day, registering fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.55) as well as eighth during the 400 hurdles (58.14).
The other top-ten runner for the guys was Terrell White, logging a 48.92 mark in the 400m.
The top score from the Braves came from the 4x100m relay team of Ashton DeFreeze, Braheem Bishop, Javon Rutledge and Marcus Sims who came in second with a blistering pace of 42.07.
Both teams will take a break next week due to Alcorn State University's spring break but will return to the track on April 24 for the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational in Natchitoches, Louisiana to wrap-up the regular season.
