Lady Braves Fall To William Carey

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's tennis program concluded its regular season at home versus the William Carey Crusaders, dropping the match 7-0.

The Lady Braves (3-13, 2-5 SWAC) had to endure a two-hour rain delay and did not have any seniors competing as the club is primarily made up of sophomores.

In doubles play, #1 Mikaela Konstantinova / Aizat Zholdakyeva were in its match with Wijitbanjong Pakkaro / Nadine Geschke until the very end (6-4) while the team of #3 Tangia Riley-Codrington / Jaime Edwards took Nastassia Chamoun / Meg Dolde to the brink before falling, 7-5.

During singles action, #2 Konstantinova gave Marina Prieto a run for her money in a 6-4, 7-5 defeat and #6 Stefany Grlj was a feisty competitor in a setback against Sabrina Goetzen (6-4, 6-4).

The Alcorn women's tennis team will be the sixth-seed in the upcoming SWAC Tournament and will open against fourth-seeded Alabama A&M on Friday at 9 a.m. in New Orleans.
