JACKSON, Miss. –  The Alcorn State University softball program saw Kiri Parker take control of the game as the starting pitcher used her arm and her bat to lead the Lady Braves over the Lady Tigers, 11-9.
The Lady Braves (5-14, 3-5 SWAC) scored early and often, putting five runs on the board in the opening frame and seven in the first two innings to stake an insurmountable cushion.
Parker was undoubtedly the star of the show for Coach Rankin's crew, pummeling her first two career home runs and five RBIs to go along with getting the start in the circle where she pitched four innings while whiffing two JSU hitters.
Genise Wells contributed two huge RBIs of her own on a two-RBI single back up the box to give the Purple and Gold a seven-run lead in the second.
Brittney Triplett had an outstanding night in the leadoff slot, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while motoring all the way to third for a triple.
Chloey Morgan scored twice and reached twice via a single plus a walk while Marsha Hunt clubbed an RBI-double for her lone hit of the game.
Ambria Dorsey was on the receiving end of the contest, capping the evening with three innings of three-run ball and two strikeouts to put this one in the win column for the women from Lorman.
Jackson State (13-20, 10-5 SWAC) outhit Alcorn (13-11), coaxed more walks (5-2) and struck out an even number of batters (4-4) but it was not enough.
Samiah Huckabee swiped three bags while smacking three hits and scoring twice, Alexis Arredondo posted a pair of doubles and a team-best three ribbies and Kayla Owens drove in two to go along with reaching base safely thrice to highlight the Lady Tigers top performers.
With the victory, the Purple and Gold trail the Blue and White all-time at 59-48.
Alcorn will look to either win or sweep the series Friday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin around noon.
