Final Results
NATCHITOCHES, La. – True freshman Jeremiah Wingate and sophomore Runelda Jackson won their respective events Saturday at Northwestern State University, winning the men's 5000m and women's 1500m, respectively.
Jackson put forth a dominant performance in the 1500m, besting the second place runner over 20 seconds with a time of 4:58.45.
Wingate had a slightly closer call in his event, claiming victory during the 500m at a 17:33.10 clip, which was 13 seconds faster than his closest competitor. He competed in the 1500m as well, getting seventh at a 4:31.45 pace.
The Lady Braves had a third place winner and two other top-five finishes on the docket as Akili Pleas-Carne registered third in the 400 hurdles (1:03.77), Samouya Nevers placed fourth during the 800m (2:23.71) and Shameka Grover ran a 12.08-second 100m dash to come in fifth.
Along with Pleas-Carne slotting in seventh in the 100 hurdles (14.91), five other women in Purple and Gold logged a top-ten placement during the track events including De'Kari Courtney (15.10, 100 hurdles), Jasmine Ward (1:00.12, 400m), Bethany Sanders (1:00.28, 400m), An'Twanique Kinsler (25.37, 200m) plus Endya Scott (25.73, 200m).
De'Aisha Davis was the only Alcorn student-athlete of either team to record a notable measurement in a field event, slotting in the tenth position with a 5.43m long jump.
Outside of Wingate, Peterson Saint-Cyrin had the next highest finish with a 1:59.37 mark to place third in the 800m.
Bralon Robinson and Jachius Spears each contributed a fourth place allotment in the 100m (10.60) and 110 hurdles (14.72), respectively, while David Smith rounded out the top-five individual showings with fifth during the 1500m (4:28.71).
Other notable top-ten finishes for the Braves were Terrell White in the 400m (49.65), Ashton DeFreeze in the 200m (21.72), Marciano Taylor in the 800m (2:06.33) and Anthony Morgan in the 400m (52.66).
That was the final regular season meet of the 2021 outdoor season with the SWAC Championships beginning on May 6th, running through May 7th on the campus of Prairie View A&M.
