LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University softball program, fresh off a series victory over first-place Jackson State, will finally resume its series against the Lady Lions Thursday afternoon at one and three.
The Lady Braves (6-15, 4-6 SWAC) have waited since March 20 for this rematch, earning a walkoff win in the series opener over a month ago before the rest of the series was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Pine Bluff program.
As a team, the Purple and Gold have played quality defense among the middle infielders and smacked a bunch of doubles, ranking second and third in the conference respectively, with an average of 0.29 double plays turned plus 1.24 doubles hit per contest.
Amari Ramsey, the program's all-time career doubles leader is at it again in 2021, posting the second-best doubles per game rate in the country at 0.57 and has tied herself on the single season doubles list with 12 on the campaign, the sixth-most in school history.
Ramsey leads Alcorn with a batting average of .323 plus 21 hits, 14 runs scored and 33 total bases.
Ambria Dorsey headlines the rotation in the circle, making a team-high seven starts over 12 appearances while hurling a Lady Brave best 26 strikeouts in 46 innings.
Dorsey currently resides in third all-time for strikeouts (200), fifth in starts (55), sixth in wins (16) and sixth in innings pitched (341.2).
Marsha Hunt has brought a key run producer into the middle of the Alcorn lineup, driving in 17 RBIs on the season as the only Lady Brave to log double-digits in the category this year.
Brittney Triplett is having another spectacular year in the leadoff role, batting .284 to go along with 19 hits, 12 runs, a double, triple, homer, and stolen base.

Scouting the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions (1-25, 1-12 SWAC)
UAPB has had a difficult time getting into any sort of rhythm all season long as its only win on the campaign was a 10-2 triumph over JSU on March 29.
The Black and Gold rank in the top half of the league regarding home runs per game (0.27) and fielding percentage (0.942).
Samaria Jackson (.273) and Shanice Akins (.262) are the only two Lady Lions hitting above .250 with Jackson fronting the squad in RBIs (14), homers (3), doubles (3) and total bases (27) while Akins is topping Pine Bluff at 17 hits and ten runs scored.
Sydney Green has been the most dependable arm in its five-women pitching staff, making nine starts over 56 innings as well as six complete games for an ERA of 5.13 plus 35 Ks.
In the prior 33 all-time matchups against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Alcorn has doubled the Lady Lions up to the tune of 22 wins compared to 11 losses.
