Muhammad, Waller & Menges To Participate In HBCU Combine

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former football players Solomon Muhammad and De'Shawn Waller plus current long snapper Colton Menges have been invited to partake in the inaugural HBCU Combine at the Legion Pavilion on the campus of UAB from April 9-10.

All three players were supposed to participate last year when the combine was scheduled to take place at the Miami Dolphins training facility on March 27-28, 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered those plans. This event is reserved for the top NFL draft prospects to come out of historically black colleges and universities with the focus on giving the student-athletes more recognition to show off their skills to scouts.

Muhammad will be returning to his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama with NFL dreams as he was a tackling machine for the Braves defense. The 6-foot-1 linebacker was a two-time HBCU All-American, All-SWAC First Team selection and SWAC Defensive Player of the Week while claiming a spot on the STATS FCS All-America Third Team at the conclusion of his senior season. In three seasons on "The Reservation" the recreation major piled up 203 tackles (6.55 per game), 26.5 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits, nine sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three interceptions.

Waller spent two seasons in Lorman, concluding his career with the 12th-most rushing yards in program history with 1,673. The running back from Atlanta was named SWAC Newcomer of the Year in 2018, earning three SWAC Newcomer of the Week accolades, a spot on the All-SWAC First Team, was an HBCU All-American and a STATS FCS All-America Third Teamer. That season he finished eighth in the nation for rushing yards per game (121.5), 15th in total rushing yards (1,215), 19th in all-purpose yards per game (133.0), 19th in rushing yards per carry (6.5), 20th in rushing TDs (12), 23rd in scoring (7.8 points per game) and 25th in total touchdowns (13) despite not becoming a starter until week seven.

Menges is a 6-foot-5, 250 pound sports management major from Belton, Texas. He was a Preseason First Team All-American in 2020 and selected to the HERO Sports All-America Third Team for 2019. During the 2019 campaign, he did not commit a single turnover over 12 games and recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA in both the fall and spring terms.

The NFL Draft is set to begin in Cleveland, Ohio on April 29 with round one followed by rounds 2-4 on April 30 and rounds 5-7 on May 1.

Menges and the Braves will start its fall 2021 campaign on August 28 when it will kickoff the season in Atlanta versus North Carolina Central during the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
